Saudis confirm killing of Jamal Khashoggi, several nationalists detained

Saudis confirm killing of Jamal Khashoggi, several nationalists detained, Saudi Arabian state media confirmed on Friday that journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed in the regime’s Istanbul consulate and said the kingdom’s Deputy President of General Intelligence has been fired.

The report from official Saudi television said that an investigation concluded that Khashoggi was killed after a fight inside the consulate and that 18 Saudi nationals were detained as suspects in his death.

Ahmed Asiri, Deputy Chief of General Intelligence, has been removed, according to the network.

The news follows speculation about whether the Saudi regime would hold anyone accountable for Khasoggi’s disappearance after Turkish officials said audio from inside the compound revealed the gruesome details behind his killing.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday that he would give the Saudis “a few more days” to finish their investigation into Khasoggi’s disappearance.
